Celebrating 50 of Jerusalem's Reunification

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the unification of the city, dozens of events will be held throughout the city, including shows, tours, musical performances, colorful parades, ceremonies, light exhibitions and more

*Festive reception hosted by the Mayor at the Tower of David Museum – A live museum with central characters from Jerusalem’s past and present and a concert by the Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra and the singers Emil Zrihan, Orit Atar and Idan Amedi*

On Wednesday, 28 of Iyar 5777, May 24, 2017, we will celebrate 50 years of Jerusalem's reunification. During the week of May 21 to 25, 2017, the Jerusalem Municipality mark these celebrations with a wide variety of events and shows held throughout the city for the benefit of residents and visitors.

The event "Jerusalem Celebrates 50", which includes a breathtaking audio-visual display shown on the Old City walls and a variety of performances, will be held in celebration of 50 years to the unification of the city.

The Mayor and his wife will host a festive reception at the Tower of David – including a live museum, singer performances. The city will also celebrate 50 years of reunification with the Yakir Yerushalayim Award ceremony, and an event, "Singing to You, Jerusalem" at the President’s residence, and other official events and ceremonies.

Jerusalem day will be celebrated in the city’s neighborhoods by a wide variety of events, and a festive concert will be held at Safra Square.

The Annual White Night celebration will be held to celebrate Student Day. To mark 50 years to the unification of the city, this year the event will include the best singers and will be held across the city – in Sacher Park, Kikar HaHatulot, a street party at Zion Square, Mitchell Garden, and a sunrise concert at Safra Square.

The Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat: "50 years have passed since Jerusalem has been united, and this year we will celebrate this with a wide variety of events, allowing more and more people to connect with Jerusalem and take part in the festivities. I invite all the residents and visitors of Jerusalem to come join the celebrations in honor of the reunification of our nation’s capital."

A breathtaking, once in 50 years, audio-visual display shown on the Old City walls.

Including top artists – David D'Or, Eviatar Banai, Sarit Hadad, Avraham Tal, Idan Amedi, Amir Benayoun, Shuli Natan, Adi Adonya, Osher Sabag, Ben Sanuf

The event is produced by and held in collaboration with The Ariel Municipal Company.

 

Concert by the Jerusalem Symphonic Orchestra, Miri Mesika, David D’Or and Kobi Aflalo – Safra Square

A festive concert celebrating 50 years to the unification of the city with the songs of Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Symphonic Orchestra hosts Miri Mesika, David D’Or and Kobi Aflalo.

"Singing for You, Jerusalem" – Celebrating 50 years of the Reunification of Jerusalem, President’s Residence, at20:00

The best songs of Jerusalem get a new interpretation by the leading Israeli artists.

Entrance by invitation only.

In collaboration with the House of Hebrew Songs at the National Library and the Heritage Program.

 

A festive reception hosted by the Mayor of Jerusalem and Mrs. Barkat to celebrate 50 years to the unification of the city – Tower of David

Wednesday, 28 of Iyar 5777, May 24, 2017 12:00 – 18:00

The Mayor of Jerusalem and Mrs. Barkat invite the city residents and its visitors to a festive reception at the Tower of David Museum in celebration of 50 years to the unification of the city

The program includes:

Live Museum – Characters from Jerusalem’s past and present, guidance stations and observation points

Jerusalem activity complexes

A concert by the Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra and the singers Emil Zrihan, Orit Atar and Idan Amedi.

The Mayor and his wife will greet guests between 15:30 and 17:30.

The public is invited. The museum is open to the public. Entrance free of charge.

Student Day at Sacher Park – Tuesday, 27 of Iyar 5777, May 23, 2017

In honor of 50 years of the reunification of the city, the student day events will be held this year in several centers throughout the city all night long. Concerts at Sacher Park, at Kikar HaHatulot – music, beer, games and food, athletes on the bar, a street party at Zion Square, the Haredi Student Day at Mitchell Garden and a sunrise concert at Safra Square.

Tours of City Hall Plaza

The Quality of Service Authority and the Municipality of Jerusalem’s Visitors’ Center invite the public to guided tours of City Hall Plaza on Jerusalem Day, commemorating 50 years to the reunification of the city. The tours will include visiting the Jewish National Fund’s photo exhibition “We returned to the Water Holes” which exhibits various images of Jerusalem taken in 1967, viewing the breathtaking panorama from the building, which served as city hall during the mandate period, and entrance into a model of the city – the Model House.

Meeting point:  Safra Square opposite building number 3, the Pillow Complex.

Duration: approx. 1.5 hours.
