| TODAY: Trump will recognize Jerusalem as capital, plan embassy move

US President Donald Trump will announce Wednesday that he formally recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the White House said Tuesday. Trump will also say in a speech Wednesday that he is ordering the State Department to develop a plan for moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.

The move may trigger violence in Israel and around the region. On Tuesday, The US Consulate General Jerusalem ordered its employees to stay away from high-tension areas, and warned US Citizens to "avoid areas where crowds have gathered and where there is increased police and/or military presence." There are reports that Palestinian factions are planning three "days of rage" Wednesday through Friday to protest the decision.

In an interview with Army Radio, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat noted that the technicality of moving the Embassy to Jerusalem could be done in two minutes. "They just take the symbol of the consulate and switch it to the embassy symbol - two American Marines can do it in two minutes, and give ambassador David Friedman a space to sit in," Barkat told Israel Radio.
