This is the way that I buy appliances:
I read up about the appliance on the Wisebuy site (in Hebrew). Here, for example, is the link for the Wisebuy’s info about washing machines:
If the Hebrew is a problem, you can use the Google Toolbar in Internet Explorer to translate the pages.
While Wisebuy has excellent buyer guides, tailor-made for Israel, it's not so good on reviews of individual appliances.
Since US appliances are usually not sold in Israel, I would check out appliance reviews in a UK site. Here's a site that looks promising:
Once I have an idea of what l’m looking for, I usually take a trip to Talpiot and check out the big appliance stores and get a chance to see what I'm buying. In Kinyon Hadar (at the beginning of Pierre Koenig Street) you can check out Shekem Electric and Home Center. Nearby, you can also check out Machsanei Chashmal.
Usually, I then have a good idea of what I want. Once at home, I usually go to www.zap.co.il
to compare prices and buy over the Internet. Zap gives you store ratings as well as price comparisons.
Hope this helps.
