| 6 Chiropractic tips for sitting Correctly at work

Most people today find themselves sitting for long hours at the office. Prolonged sitting, especially sitting incorrectly, has been shown to increase the risk of lower back pain in particular  as well as other harmful effects on your health. As a Chiropractor I believe that prevention is the best treatment, which is why I would like to share with you the following tips of how to sit correctly, to help avoid back pain and other problems.

6 Chiropractic tips for sitting Correctly at work:


1: Sit as far back in the chair as possible while sitting up straight

This will help promote the natural curve of the back and prevent increased strain resulting in pain and other problems.


2: Elevate monitor until eye-level with the top third of the screen

This will help prevent looking down at the screen, which puts extra tension on the neck that can cause cervical strains and headaches.


3: Keeps arms close to body with elbows at 90 degree angle and wrists inline with forearm

This will help prevent chronic arm and wrist sprains and strains.


4: Feet should be flat on the floor/footrest and knees at 90 angle

This keep the lower limbs in a neutral position without putting too much stress on them.


5: Keep keyboard, mouse and most used items close to avoid leaning forward

This will help avoid leaning forward and placing the body in uncomfortable and challenging positions.


6: Get up and move/stretch every 20-30 min

Movement is essential to maintaining a healthy spine and body. This is because it allows for blood and oxygen to flow throughout the brain and body, giving them the nutrients they need to think clearly and prevent muscles and joints from degenerating. Studies have also found that sitting for prolonged periods can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer as all muscular and cellular systems in the body become deactivated.
