For other Sukkot tiyulim by Shalom Pollack, please see last paragraph below.

Join us with veteran tour guide Shalom Pollack as we wind our way through

the historical expanses of the ancient Shomron (Samaria). Along the way we will be joined by several modern-day pioneers to hear of their first hand experiences of renewed Jewish settlement in the heart of our G-d given homeland.

We will be visiting:

Esh Kodesh

We plan to meet with prominent attorney Nati Rom who devotes part of his time to Honenu, the organization that is on call 24 hours per day to advise and defend Jews who have their most basic legal rights challenged by the authorities. Hear about the challenges and history of his yishuv. We will be visiting a high point in the area to get an overview the beauty of Eretz Yisrael.

We will hear of the latest challenges to the independence and durability of these local pioneers. We will witness the shocking reality of construction of a new Arab city adjacent to the Shilo bloc of yishuvim which, if not stopped, will bring an influx of Arabs across the street from their homes. On a much more positive note the hilltop community of Amichai was the first new settlement established by the government in over 25 years. The town is home to all 42 families that were cleared from Amona in February 2017, but the government plans to expand it nine-fold in the coming years.

Ayelet Hashachar HaCohen, eloquent leader and community organiser in the yishuv Yitzhar. She will bring us up to date on the constant and continuing security and political pressures experienced daily. She will also spread her infectious joy and love of life in the heartland of Eretz Israel. We will be eating lunch in the synagogue's sukkah. We will be given a tour of her family's newly renovated flour mill.

Havat Gilad

We will strengthen and be strengthened by a visit to Havat Gilad, a small farming community in the Shomron, built on private land purchased by Moshe Zar, established in 2002 in memory of his son Gilad Zar, Hy"d. The Cabinet's decision to finally officially recognise the outpost came a month after the murder of Havat Gilad resident Rabbi Raziel Shevach, Hy"d, last January by Arab terrorists from the PA. Scheduled to speak to us are local residents Illana Shimon and Yael Shevach, widow of Rabbi Raziel, Hy"d.

An experience, totally in English, long to be remembered.

Subsidised low cost is 165 NIS, payable 20 minutes before departure.

Suggested tips: bring a hat, your lunch for inside the sukkah, lots of water and your intellectual curiosity. (Tiyul subject to modifications due to holiday traffic, security considerations and other factors.)

Reservations and queries: Michael -

Cancellations will be accepted until 72 hours before departure. If not, full payment is expected.
