Academic editor, writing coach, writer

Sara Promislow, MEd, PhD

I am an academic editor, writing coach, and writer with more than 16 years’ experience. I work with authors across disciplines to improve their writing and writing skills. I edit research papers, books and book chapters, grant proposals, doctoral theses, conference abstracts, and scientific reports. I help authors clearly articulate their research, ideas, knowledge, and experience, including:

·identifying and addressing gaps in content;

·improving clarity, organization, and flow;

·removing repetition and replacing jargon;

·correcting grammar, spelling, and word usage;

and

·formatting materials to meet style guidelines (APA, CMOS, Vancouver, and Harvard).

I have extensive experience working with authors for whom English is a second (or third) language.

Since completing my PhD at the University of Toronto, I have held a number of positions in health sciences research and education. I have focused on improving healthcare and clinical practice through research, education, and knowledge translation. I have authored and co-authored journal articles, book chapters, conference posters, presentations, and abstracts; developed and contributed to successful grant applications, including a $7M CIHR grant; and created knowledge translation materials for diverse audiences. In my doctoral research, I explored the experiences of childhood immigrants who maintained their mother tongue and became bilingual.
