The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for a Deputy Director – UK Israel Tech Hub, Grade – C4 (L).

 

 

About the UK Israel Tech Hub:

 

The Hub helps drive economic growth by creating partnerships in which British companies help Israeli innovation go global, and Israeli innovation gives British companies a global competitive edge.

The Hub was launched in October 2011 at the British Embassy Israel, following an agreement between Prime Ministers Cameron and Netanyahu to build a UK-Israel partnership in technology. The Hub is a high-profile initiative aimed at developing new methods of commercial diplomacy.

 

Overview of the role:

 

The Deputy Director will support Hub management in running the Hub’s operations; contribute to the Hub’s overall strategic direction; take a lead on certain sector coverage in Israel; lead on cross team projects and senior relationships with external contacts and sponsors. The Deputy Director will report to the Hub Director, and be part of a dynamic team of 10, mostly based at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Some flexibility around working hours will be expected to adapt to the Hub’s activities. The Deputy Director will be based in Israel,
travelling often outside Tel Aviv to peripheral geographies, with occasional short international business trips to the UK as needed.

 

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

  • You will initiate and pursue new strategic opportunities for the Hub, be able to identify and cultivate new leads, understand business and innovation needs across all sectors and convincingly present the opportunities for collaboration via the Hub.

     

  • You will lead on selected operational management responsibilities, including potentially: project oversight, budget management, impact assessment (monitoring and evaluation), HR supervision, or as further defined according to need in order to support the work of the Hub’s Director and new strategic directions for the Hub.

     

  • You will oversee selected sector work where there are operational gaps (might include: Arab Tech, EdTech, Retail or others). Working closely with the Hub team in Israel and the UK to fill these gaps and play a key role in identifying and refining strategic priorities for these sectors; bringing in new projects and clients; delivering activities and tangible business outcomes.

     

  • You will assume occasional leadership roles within the team and the wider Embassy by representing the Hub and the Embassy externally in the absence of the Director (media, speaking opportunities, event representation).

     

  • You will contribute to the Hubs’ future sustainability by actively seeking new opportunities for execution of the Hub’s mission, signing off on work proposals and suppliers, as well as pursuing new partners and recruiting commercial sponsors.

It’s about having a commercial, financial and sustainable mind-set to ensure all activities and services are delivering added value and working to stimulate economic growth.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 6+ years working in business development, sales & marketing, management, consulting, finance, project management or at a start-up. Experience in one of the Hub’s key sectors of focus a plus.

  • BA required. MBA or equivalent (business/technology related Master’s degree) is a strong plus

  • Proven project management and budget management skills to develop and run programs and partnerships from the ground up.

  • Proven experience in impact assessment, including monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the UK/Israel business landscape and culture. Ideally would bring a network of business contacts in Israel and/or the UK in addition to the ability to expand this network.

  • Can work creatively, strategically and independently yet in coordination with 2 strong teams based across TLV and London. Experience of work within a matrix structure a strong plus.

  • Flawless written and verbal communication skills in English. Hebrew and/or Arabic – a strong plus.

  • Experience working in/with government or not-for-profit environments is a plus.

  • Experience working in the development sector or dealing with economic empowerment issues a plus.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel to the UK.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

 

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 14,550 per month plus social benefits.  The initial contract will be for one year, with a six-month probationary period.  Parking facilities are not provided or paid for by the embassy.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

 

Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30, flexibility will be required including occasional evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.

 

 

Eligibility:

Candidate must be able to work legally in Israel.
