The central state ceremony marking the start of Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day in Israel will be held at Yad Vashem on Wednesday night, April 11th
. The ceremony will be held in the presence of the President of the State of Israel and the Prime Minister, dignitaries, survivors, children of survivors and their families, together with the general public.
Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day) is observed this year on Wednesday night and Thursday (April 11-12).
Yom HaShoah opens in Israel at sundown. On the eve of Yom HaShoah and the day itself, places of public entertainment are closed by law. Flags on public buildings are flown at half mast. At 10AM Thursday, a siren sounds throughout the country, and everyone stops what they are doing, including motorists who stop their cars in the middle of the road, standing beside their vehicles in silence as the siren is sounded.
