Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat inaugurated yesterday the renovated Rockefeller Park, which covers an area of about 10 dunams and is the largest park in the eastern part of the city. The renewal of the garden is a joint project of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Ministry of Heritage and has invested more than NIS 7.5 million. The renovation work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority through the Moriah Municipal Company.

As part of the work to renovate the garden, all the sports facilities were replaced by new and unique sports facilities, peripheral lighting was installed, all the infrastructure was upgraded, new gardening was carried out and vegetation was planted throughout the garden. In addition, the park was fully accessible to the disabled, seating and drinking stations were added, and public services will soon be opened to the visitors.

The park will serve some 40,000 residents from the Wadi Joz neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods (Sheikh Jarrah, Bab al-Zahra, the Old City) and will be the focal point for a variety of youth and sports activities organized by the Jerusalem Municipality and the community administration.

The renewal of the park joins a long list of projects that promise a tremendous development momentum in the area, estimated at approximately NIS 30 million, including upgrading the HaNeviim Street, upgrading through Nablus, developing the Damascus Gate, new playgrounds that have recently opened and another planned neighborhood park.

Mayor Nir Barkat: "The renewed Rockefeller Park is the largest and most central park in East Jerusalem, and thousands of families and children from the region will enjoy it." The opening of this important park continues the momentum of the new playgrounds that we have opened in recent years throughout the city, Opening of the garden and Eid al-Fitr, which will be celebrated on the weekend. "

Director of the Jerusalem Development Authority Eyal Haimovsky: "In recent years, the Jerusalem Development Authority has promoted dozens of projects of unprecedented scope in the Old City basin, including in the Arab neighborhoods. We are continuing with the development momentum of the area for the benefit of all the residents. "
