More than 4,600 runners from 80 countries are expected to join Israeli contestants in the ninth international Jerusalem Winner Marathon, March 15, 2019. That’s a 15 percent increase in foreign participation compared to last year.

Registrants include runners from Italy, China, South Africa, Tanzania, Haiti, Cuba, Macau, Kazakhstan and Costa Rica.

The Jerusalem marathon, which has established its status as one of the most challenging such runs due to the city’s hilly topography, attracts more than 40,000 runners annually.

The marathon’s route passes by Jerusalem’s historic and modern landmarks, including the Knesset (Israeli parliament), the Old City, Sultan’s Pool, Mount Zion, the German Colony, Rehavia neighborhood, Armon HaNatziv promenade, Ammunition Hill, Sacher Park, Mount Scopus and other sites.

Participants can choose from among six options including a full marathon (42.2km), 10K race, 5K race, family race and a community race involving more than 6,000 runners.

The marathon will be accompanied by events such as an Expo Sport exhibition, evening gala and traditional pasta dinner prepared by Israeli celebrity chefs.
