An international award, based in Tel Aviv and focusing on history and related disciplines, is seeking to appoint a program manager. The Prize recognizes outstanding scholarship that illuminates the human past, and seeks to anchor public debate about the present and future in a deeper understanding of history. The Prize is endowed by a foundation which supports research, academic excellence and breakthrough advancements in the humanities and sciences.
PROGRAM MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Prize’s Director, the Program Manager will support the Prize’s strategy by managing the selection of winners who represent the Prize’s mission. The Program Manager will implement the strategy for winner selection and manage the selection process from the opening of nominations to the final selection of winners, as well as maintaining candidate information and internal Prize systems and databases. The Program Manager will be the Prize’s day-to-day liaison with the Selection Committee, nomination scouts and Prize candidates, will support public activities when needed, and support the Prize process in other ways as necessary. The role is intended to be a full-time position and will be based in Tel Aviv.
Responsibilities:
With the support of the Prize’s Director, Academic Advisor, Board and other staff, implement a successful and appropriately transparent selection process for the Prize, the result of which achieves the Prize’s goals and is respected by the scholarly community that it seeks to support. This includes:
● Working with the Prize’s Director, Academic Advisor, Board and other staff to identify and recruit a diverse and effective Selection Committee for each Prize cycle, and to develop a network of nomination scouts across relevant disciplines, fields and regions with an attention to new trends in historical research, unexpected or overlooked categories of representation, and particular areas of inquiry that could benefit from Prize support.
● Managing the annual selection process, including responding to enquiries, processing nominations, providing candidate materials and vetting support for the Selection Committee when required, and managing the database of nominees during each cycle, and year-to-year.
● Acting as the primary point of contact between the Prize’s staff and the Selection Committee and nomination scouts, including supporting those roles and Board members in their work and providing briefing materials on candidates.
● Assessing the impact of the Prize and providing input to the Director, Academic Advisor and Board on possible adjustments to the Prize’s selection strategy as a result.
● Liaise with partners regarding the Prize’s associated Scholarship program
● Support the management of a scholarship program.
● Over time, manage the development, maintenance and engagement of a network of Prize winner “alumni.”
Qualifications and Experience
Reporting to the Prize’s Director, the Program Manager would ideally have a background in both administration and history and related fields, must possess excellent project management skills, and should be committed to furthering history’s role in broader public understanding through the implementation of the Prize program. The professional experience and personal characteristics of an ideal candidate are:
● Natural affinity for the Prize vision and values, which identify historical inquiry as a key contributor to our understanding of our present, and to our ability to shape our collective future.
● A demonstrated ability to set priorities, to analyze operational problems effectively and recommend creative solutions, and to manage their complete implementation in a short period of time.
● Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills, including flexibility, patience and an accessible, jargon-free style.
● 5+ years experience managing complex processes with multiple stakeholders is preferred.
● Undergraduate or graduate degree in a historical field is preferred, as is work in the humanities.
● Mother-tongue level English is required; Hebrew is desirable.
