An international award, based in Tel Aviv and focusing on history and related disciplines, is seeking to appoint a head of content and communications. The Prize recognizes outstanding scholarship that illuminates the human past, and seeks to anchor public debate about the present and future in a deeper understanding of history. The Prize is endowed by a foundation which supports research, academic excellence and breakthrough advancements in the humanities and sciences.

HEAD OF CONTENT AND COMMUNICATIONS JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Prize’s Director, the Head of Content and Communications will be responsible for articulating and supporting the mission and impact of the Prize by overseeing communications and messaging about the Prize, its winners and its story, and programming creative Prize events and activities. The role will be based in Tel Aviv and will be a part-time position initially, requiring three days a week, though it may grow in the future.

Responsibilities:

● Work directly with Prize winners to identify how Prize communications and events can best support their work, and advocate on their behalf with media partners, PR agency and relevant contractors.

● Work with the Prize’s partners to conceive, design and produce an annual program of activities, including but not limited to the culminating events and Prize ceremony, that advance the Prize’s mission, reach core audiences in academia and the broader public, and support Prize winners. Such activities may be both in person and online.

● Work with partners and stakeholders to reinforce and maintain the Prize’s story across platforms, partnerships, annual events and cohorts of winners.

● Build and manage relationships with Prize winner alumni; create programs and initiatives that, over time, engage alumni in the Prize mission and provide networking opportunities for cross-cohort connections.

● Work with partners to supervise the Prize’s social media output.

Qualifications and Experience

The Head of Content and Communications must have a fluency in the scholarly humanities, ideally with knowledge or particular interest in history and historical scholarship, and experience of bringing complex ideas to a broad public audience. Experience in events programming is strongly preferred, as is experience with marketing and communications. The professional experience and personal characteristics of an ideal candidate are:

● Natural affinity for the Prize’s vision and values, which identify historical inquiry as a key contributor to our understanding of our present, and to our ability to shape our collective future.

● Experience with translating scholarly work to other contexts; a fluency with scholarly ideas as well as a proven record working in academic-adjacent professional environments.

● Experience in developing content and programming/designing events or other public activities that reach audiences in creative and meaningful ways, ideally in the context of the humanities.

● Knowledge of communications practices is required and some experience developing and overseeing messaging, brand narrative and marketing communications is preferred.

● An understanding of audiences for the humanities and experience with audience development; the ability to identify, attract, engage and develop appropriate audiences for the Prize over time.

● A record of developing strong relationships with a variety of partners and stakeholders and experience of managing partnerships effectively.

● Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills.

● An academic background in the humanities is preferred.

● Mother-tongue level English is required; Hebrew is desirable.
