Kevin Brent Buchanan, 64, pleaded guilty in July to leaving at least five threatening voice messages for an unnamed Palestinian organization.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Wednesday that Kevin Brent Buchanan, 64, of Tooele, Utah, was sentenced to six months in prison for threatening violence against a D.C.-based Palestinian rights organization.
Buchanan pleaded guilty in July to transmitting threats, after he left at least five voice messages for the unnamed Palestinian group.
“Your families are going to be followed and watched,” Buchanan said, according to court documents. He added in an expletive-laden comment that the “traitors” are going to die.
“Buchanan admitted that he intentionally targeted the organization because its staff and members are Palestinian, and because the organization advocates on behalf of Palestinians,” the Justice Department stated.
In addition to the prison sentence, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a senior judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, ordered Buchanan to serve three years of supervised release with mandatory participation in a mental health program.
