Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett reciprocated by inviting Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro to Israel, saying he “would be pleased” to host the latter at the Brazilian embassy in Jerusalem when it opens.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro invited Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to visit “at the earliest opportunity” in their first phone call since Bennett took office, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

During their call on Tuesday, Bennett reciprocated by inviting Bolsonaro to Israel, saying he “would be pleased” to host the latter at the Brazilian embassy in Jerusalem when it opens. Bolsonaro previously promised to move Brazil’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but so far has only opened an economic office in Jerusalem in December 2019, reported i24News.

Bennett thanked Brazil’s president “for his warm congratulations on the establishment of the government of Israel and noted that he has been a great friend of the State of Israel,” said the statement. He then “commended the election of Brazil as a member of the U.N. Security Council and emphasized its strong and continuing stand alongside Israel in the international arena.”

The world leaders also agreed to “deepen bilateral ties and cooperation in a range of areas, especially economic matters and high-tech.”
