KLARA SEVER SCULPTURE mounted on base. Very good condition.

Klara Sever was born into a Jewish family in 1935 in Trebišov, Slovakia. With the outbreak of WWII and the founding of the First Slovak Republic, Klara and her family were sent to a concentration camp in Žilina, but were subsequently able to obtain release.

In 1951, Klara attended the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Upon graduation, she wanted to pursue her studies further, but was blacklisted due to her marriage to her husband, who was regarded as “an enemy of the state.”

In 1969, they arrived in New York City. Although she did not know yet any English, Klara worked a series of jobs reproducing sculptures. In the Washington, D.C. area, Klara worked as a sculptor, preparing commissions and heading her own company. "Circle of Humanity" is regarded as one of her finest and most popular works.
