The Senior Claims Specialist is responsible for leading daily claims operations and ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant handling of workers’ compensation claims. This position provides technical claims leadership, team supervision, process improvement, and client support to promote efficient operations and strong service outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily claims operations to ensure efficient handling, timely processing, and accurate claim resolution.
- Supervise, mentor, and train Claims Support Specialists (CSS), including onboarding, performance coaching, and ongoing development.
- Review complex and high-exposure claims, including claims with high incurred amounts and claims escalated by staff with potential for increased exposure.
- Verify documentation, assess claim activity, and ensure compliance with company procedures, internal controls, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Lead weekly team meetings focused on training, claim handling best practices, process updates, and departmental priorities.
- Coordinate and support Return-to-Work (RTW) initiatives, including program development, implementation, and training support.
- Identify outside training needs and help coordinate targeted education for the team.
- Work closely with senior leadership to support staffing, performance, priorities, and departmental strategy.
Qualifications
- WC Adjuster license (preferred)
- Strong mentorship and leadership skills.
- Advanced knowledge of workers’ compensation claims handling, investigation, and settlement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage escalated matters and resolve conflicts professionally.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal insurance regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership and cross-functional partners.
