OHR HADASSAH :

A LIFELINE FOR ANGLO WIDOWS AND ORPHANS CHANGING LIVES AND BRINGING HOPE FOR 1 DOLLAR A WEEK!

When a person loses their spouse, they lose so much....

more than a life partner. They lose their personal cheerleader, their family’s breadwinner, their children’s disciplinarian.

Life as they knew it unravels, with no hope in sight.

Ohr Hadassa became that hope.

Founded five years ago by Tzvi and Jen Kotler, in memory of Jen’s late husband Lawrence Melzer a’’h, Ohr Hadassa Zichron Eliezer enters widowed families’ lives and embraces them like old friends, filling whatever gaps they’re able to and providing for their every need on a warm, personal level.

We Cater to  young Anglo Israeli widows and their unmarried children, with their youngest widow only 21, her husband a victim of the Meron tragedy r’’l.

Ohr Hadassa’s work includes a support group, therapy referrals, life and grief coaching, dating advisory, help with Israeli bureaucracy, gift packages, spa and social trips, cash distributions and, most notably, My Happy Place, their groundbreaking dress store in Ramat Eshkol, with brand name current clothing donated by high-end stores.

Because there’s no limit to what Ohr Hadassa will do to ease a widow’s pain. Whatever need arises, they’ll fill it — literally going to the ends of the world if necessary.

Their creativity and sensitivity knows no bounds, and that’s because Jen has been there. She had to care for four children when her husband succumbed to his illness ten years ago. She journeyed through the different phases of grief. And b’’H she found immense joy in her remarriage.

But Jen will never forget the shattered everyday reality she faced as a widow. The overwhelming loneliness, the paralyzing fear, the unsolicited advice. No one knows better than her what a widow needs and when.

And that’s how she gets it right time and time again.

  • Like the mother who called in tears that, when the cash envelope arrived before the Purim meal, she could tell her kids, ‘Now go to the store and buy what Totty would’ve bought.’
  • Like the orphaned kallah who walked into My Happy Place days before her wedding, with nothing in her wardrobe, and walked out with a full sheva brochos trousseau — and very happy! — after her two-hour private slot.
  • Like the widow of a terror victim who Jen sent a surprise brunch amid her daughter’s wedding preps, who wrote, ‘Uncanny how you knew I needed a break. It’s been so stressful without my husband. I really needed the pick-me-up.’
