“All of a sudden he was calm! The pain was gone! We could sleep! I was hooked.”

What reflexology?

I always liked the idea of healing and preventing sickness without medicine. After our first child was born, we saw like all parents, that babies and children suffer a lot from ear infections. The child is in a tremendous amount of pain and very agitated. We never got to sleep and just suffered along with our child without having a way to help him! Once we saw that after antibiotics the baby can still get sick even a few days later, we began looking for an alternative. I read an article on the basics of reflexology and decided to try it out, especially since is accepted by all medical insurances.

All of a sudden he was calm! The pain was gone! We could sleep! I was hooked.

Where did you study reflexology?

I learned at Michlelet Shalem, an alternative medicine school in Jerusalem.

What is the origin of reflexology?

It is mentioned in the Papairosis from ancient Egypt. They used it for preventing and curing sickness. Around 80 years ago, Dr. Yunis Enghaim from England learned which parts of the feet are energetically connected to different parts of the body and used this information to help his patients. He then began teaching it to people from all over the world. In 1989, after three years of research, Vaadat Ayalon permitted reflexology in Israel. That same year, the Israel Reflexology Association was opened.

What is the actual science behind reflexology?

Just as the meridians (energy lines) in Chinese medicine reach the feet so all of the energy lines in the body reach the feet as well. The body is mirrored on the feet and therefore reflexology can reach the whole body. You have to try it and see how amazing it is for someone to feel so much better all over the body just by touching their feet! The real science is that it works!

What type of conditions should be treated with reflexology?

Many conditions could be treated through reflexology. For example, infections, bone and muscle pain, thyroid problems, immune system weakness, constipation and problems with the digestive system, mono and other viruses, prostate enlargement or infection, migraines and other neurological problems, asthma and much more. But, of course, preventing these problems is the most important and that is our goal in treatment.

What can I expect in a typical session?

Reflexology is a type of foot massage. Through the pressure points that are on the feet, I can pinpoint where the imbalance (i.e. sickness) is in the body. Through the feet, you can work on the whole body and directly affect the area that needs treatment. A typical session lasts between 35-40 minutes.

What’s the typical number of sessions or treatments required to solve most problems?

It depends. For acute problems, like back pain that just started, or an ear infection, it could be one or two treatments. If it is something more chronic, then usually it is between six and twelve treatments. The rule of thumb is, the longer that the problem exists, the longer it will take to correct it.

Are there any complications or side effects?

There are no complications and usually there are no side effects. Some people may experience slight dizziness, blood pressure could rise and muscle soreness. These side effects subside soon after. There are some cases where I wouldn’t do reflexology -- right after surgery or to someone with high blood pressure (over 170).

Tell us about a recent successful healing experience.

One patient, who for several years suffered from constant pain in his back, muscles and feet to a point that he could barely pick up anything, came to seek treatment through reflexology after conventional medicine did not work for him. After seven treatments he felt like a new person! Today he comes for an occasional follow-up session just to feel refreshed and for preventive measures.

Who should be treated with reflexology?

It is recommended for healthy people. It gives them energy and alertness and is a preventive measure. It is also recommended for people on the verge of sickness or who are already sick and need treatment. It is also great for anyone who is on medications and wants to lower their dosage or stop completely.

How should people contact you?

I see patients in Har Nof. I also see patients in their homes if needed. It is best to reach me by phone. Anyone who has a question or would like a session is free to call me at 052-763-4820.
