| Friday afternoon activity with the kids: Hapoel Katamon Soccer Game

Often, the best thing I can do to help the family get ready for Shabbat is to get the kids out of the house Friday afternoon. Hapoel Katamon Soccer games can be a great and fun way to do the job.

Hapoel Katamon plays at Teddy Stadium, and Friday games last about 2 hours and usually start "barely enough time" before shabbat. Tomorrow's game against Afula starts at 4PM, and candle lighting in Jerusalem is at 5:44, so I'll have to prep my kids that we're leaving early, and that we have to shower and get dressed quickly as soon as we get home. As you can see in the schedule below, there are other Friday games coming up, but this one will be the best opportunity until daylight savings time starts next spring.

Tickets are cheap: Its NIS 40 for adult males, and women and children below 8 are free. Students and soldiers are just NIS 20. Tickets are available only at the door, and you should pay in cash. Even if you factor in transportation and some ice cream, its an inexpensive and fun way to get everyone out the house. The stadium is mostly empty for these games, so you can feel free to spread out and relax.

Hapoel Katamon is in Israel's second soccer division, and the quality of the game play is not exactly world-class, but its a nice pre-shabbat activity for the family.
