Within the next few months, the Ministry of Transportation will publish a tender for another transportation company to offer public transportation lines in Jerusalem, according to Mynet Jerusalem. Once this is done, Egged's long-standing monopoly in Jerusalem will finally come to an end.
This comes in addition to a recent decision to allow service taxis to run routes in Jerusalem as they do in tel Aviv and other cities. It is hoped that these measures will lead to significant improvements in the level of service for Jerusalem's public transportation.
The final timeline for the tender has not yet been determined, the report noted.
